Awards Launched in Memory of Local Community Champion
Sheffield Homes are launching special awards in memory of Paul Key, a local community champion and valued member of staff at Sheffield Homes.
The Paul Key Community Champions Awards aims to recognise people in the community that go the extra mile to help others.
Paul, who sadly passed away last year, was a well-known face around Sheffield through his work for Sheffield Homes in the Community Engagement Team and in the Southey/Owlerton area. He worked closely with Tenants and Residents Associations (TARAs) throughout the city to provide support, advice and friendship. The awards were developed by Sheffield Homes after numerous TARA members suggested that a memorial event should be created.
The awards were officially launched at Sheffield Homes’ Annual Residents Conference held at Norfolk Heritage Centre in the Park.
People in Sheffield are encouraged to nominate individuals or groups who have made an outstanding contribution to improving their community. A prize of £100 is also being offered to the winners of the following award categories:
- Community Champion Outstanding Resident Award
- Community Champion Group Award
- Young Community Champion Award – for a young person aged under 18 years old
Janet Parry, Director of Housing Management at Sheffield Homes said, “We are launching these awards as a mark of respect for Paul and to recognise the positive work being carried out in our community. Paul always went out of his way to help others and he made a real difference to people’s lives. We can be sure that the winners of these awards will be worthy recipients.”
Closing date for entries is 20th December 2007. A special awards ceremony will be held in the New Year.
