Sheffield Homes residents are set to have a TARA-ific time
Sheffield residents who volunteer their valuable time to help bring the community closer together, are being recognised at a special evening of celebrations.
The event has been set up by Sheffield Homes to recognise the excellent work carried out by Tenants and Residents Associations (TARAs) in the Central area of Sheffield. Sheffield Homes, the Company that manages council housing in the City, is committed to supporting the work of local TARAs.
All 13 TARAs will be recognised for one of many key achievements in the last 12 months. Examples of the positive work carried out throughout the year include:
- Investing in improvements to community centres that act as a vital hub for local residents.
- Innovative youth projects which teach young people about community cohesion and conflict resolution through fun events and activities such as computer games nights.
- Working pro-actively with Sheffield Homes and South Yorkshire Police to crack down on anti-social behaviour.
- Developing local green spaces and championing local issues.
Anita Nadin, Central Area Assistant Manager for Sheffield Homes said, “There is a lot of excellent work that is being carried out by local TARAs and their members to help bring our communities closer together. The awards are a thank you to every TARA member who volunteers their time to helping others in the community. It is marvellous to work with individuals and groups that have so much energy, passion and commitment to give to their communities.”
The awards will be presented at Sheffield United Football Club by Sheffield Homes’ Chief Executive, Peter Morton on Thursday 25th September 2008.
Sheffield Homes offers a wide range of opportunities for customers to get involved with its work. Local people have a key role to play in shaping its services, setting the standards and making decisions about how housing is managed in Sheffield.
