Mount View Lodge Open Day Success

Sheffield Homes’ Sheltered Housing Scheme, Mount View Lodge at Derbyshire Lane, Norton Lees, opened its doors to the public for a Get Involved Open Day and managed to raise over £125! The invite was open to the tenants' families, local community groups and older residents from the area.

The sheltered housing staff are keen to promote Mount View Lodge as a social centre for the community following on from the success of the POPPIE project (active ageing project) which has been running at the Scheme since last year and has proved very successful.

Mount View Warden Pat Stokes explains, “Quite a few of the  tenants' relatives indicated a desire to get more involved with social activities and fundraising, particularly one lady who did a tremendous job on our book stall, collecting money and keeping all the books in tidy rows! The tenants are going to decide how to spend the money at the next scheme meeting. They also want to plan other fundraising and community events.  Quite a few of the local residents are interested in joining the lunch clubs, coffee mornings, etc, and said that it was good to have something so near to their own homes, as this particular part of Norton Lees doesn't have much in the way of community resources”

Senior Housing Officer Bobby Arthur said, “The homemade cakes went down a storm and I’ve had no complaints so far about my lemon drizzle cake! A few local residents came to view one of our vacant properties, and a said that they would like to bid for the property. We are hoping that more people in the area will become aware through word of mouth of Mount View Lodge as a community venue.  I think one of the best outcomes of the open day was the sense of pride in their scheme shown by the tenants, and chance for them to meet other people in the area and even make new friends.”
