The 2008 Residents Annual Conference
Tuesday 2nd September 2008 at Cutlers Hall, Sheffield
“Your City, Your Communities, Your Choice!”
“Your City, your communities, your choice” is the theme for this years action packed Annual Residents Conference, bringing together residents from across the City in celebration of being a “Sheffielder”.
The purpose of the conference is to recognise we all come from different backgrounds, have different cultures and religions, but the two things we all have in common is being a Sheffielder and that we love our city.
The conference is taking place on Tuesday 2nd September 2008, in the grand surroundings of Cutlers Hall in reflection of our proud Sheffield heritage. There will be a series of fun interactive workshops, free tours detailing the history of Cutlers Hall, prize giveaways and a chance for groups to showcase what they have done in their communities.
Sheffield Homes Community Engagement team will also be hosting their very own Dragons Den. The dragons are planned to include Decent Homes partners as well as representatives from other partner organisations. This is an opportunity for TARAs to pitch for funding. The dragons will be waiting to invest big money in your community project. So why not put a bid together and see which dragon you can get to invest in your community project!
Guests will also be invited to showcase one of their projects. If you have been involved or are involved in an exciting project or event in your community, let us know and you could be showcasing your project at the Cutlers Hall!

Poetry and photograph competition
In conjunction with this years conference Sheffield Homes has launched two new exciting competitions about why it’s great to be a Sheffielder. We all love Sheffield for different reasons and these competitions are a celebration of what makes our communities so special.
Young people living in Sheffield between the age of 5 – 10 and 11 – 16 years old are invited to write a poem about “Why they like being a Sheffielder?” Their creative talents will be fully put to the test in this city wide competition.
The poem must be about the experience of living in the city and can include anything from the area where they live or their favourite place visit, to how it makes them feel to live in Sheffield.
We have also launched a photograph competition offering a £200 prize to any customer who can take a picture that captures the spirit of their community. The photograph can be in colour or black and white and can be of anything from a sunset to a parked car, to people simply sat on a bench.
Remember, the image needs to “shout out” about what makes your community special, so go out and click it, if you want to be in it!
Further details for both competitions can be viewed via the downloadable PDFs below. You can also pick up competition entry forms from your local area housing office.
