Neighbourhood Wardens
What are Neighbourhood Wardens?
Neighbourhood wardens provide a highly visible, uniformed, semi-official presence in residential and public areas, town centres and high crime areas with the aim of reducing crime and fear of crime, deterring anti-social behaviour, fostering social inclusion and caring for the environment.
Their overall purpose is to improve quality of life and contribute to the regeneration of an area. The wardens have a number of roles depending on local needs.
Wardens help deliver local solutions to local problems by working in partnership with residents and local agencies to improve their communities’ quality of life. Their reassuring presence provides both a friendly point of contact and a focal point for delivering a range of services from promoting and assisting community safety to environmental improvements and youth work.
Wardens work 7 days a week patrolling the area between 8am – 8pm They are a visible presence on estates and deal with a variety of issues: from reports of anti-social behaviour to arranging removal of abandoned vehicles.
Their key duties and objectives are to:
- Improve the quality of life
- Reduce the levels and fear of crime
- Be the ‘eyes & ears’ of the community
- Liaise with other agencies to improve the environment
- Deal with and reduce anti-social behaviour
- Report Fly Tipping and Graffiti
- Crime Prevention Initiatives
They hope to achieve all these key points by:
- Patrolling
- Communication and Tenant Participation
- Being accepted as part of the community that we serve
- To build confidence and a ‘Community spirit’
