Estate Services Tenant Inspectors

During the last few months, our Estate and Tenancy Management Unit have been rounding up and recruiting volunteers to inspect areas of Grounds Maintenance and Block Cleaning on Sheffield Homes land. These willing volunteers are named the “Tenant Inspectors”.

The role of a Tenant Inspector is to inspect a designated area once a month and this involves the use of a checklist to tick whether the grassed area, shrub bed, drying area, garage site, etc is "Excellent", "Acceptable" or "Poor" . A map is given  to navigate around the patch (usually a small estate or areas around a few blocks). They are sent to a different patch each month to give them a change and also capture all areas on the estate.

The scheme has been running since July 2009 and so far has proved successful as it helps us to identify any areas which need improvement and highlight any areas where we are excelling.  It is initially being piloted in near Flats and Maisonettes as there are many communal areas amongst these.

Although it is predominantly the responsibility of the inspector to look at Grounds Maintenance and Block Cleaning, our Estate Officers also identify any repairs which need to be carried out in the communal areas and any maintenance work that needs undertaking.  These are passed onto or reported to the relevant teams who carry out the essential work or report back any actions which will be taken in the future.

Each inspector is rewarded for their hard work with a £20 Asda or Morrisons gift voucher for each completed inspection.
