Fly tipping
Fly tipping is the illegal disposal of waste. The problem varies in size, ranging from a small black bag to large scale dumping of building and commercial refuse.
It often results from ignorance; people are not always aware of their responsibility to dispose of waste properly. However, it is becoming clear that fly tipping is also carried out by professional criminals, who receive great financial rewards for illegal disposal.
In 2009-10, our Estate Officers removed 4,980 tonnes of illegally dumped waste from your estates. Getting rid of it is costly and takes up valuable Estate Officer time.
You can help us solve this problem by ensuring that you get rid of your waste responsibly in the first place.
