Your right to buy

If you are a council tenant, you can apply to buy your property at a discounted price under the Right to Buy scheme.

Here, you must meet certain conditions, which are explained in a useful government leaflet. Sheffield City Council’s Home Ownership Team provides more information.

Beware of companies that say they will help you buy your home. Tenants have paid large amounts of money to such organisations for services they were entitled to free from Sheffield City Council under the Right to Buy scheme.

Also, ignore anyone who tells you that the Right to Buy scheme will end. The Government has stated that this will not happen.
