Find a new home
We want to make the process of finding a Sheffield City Council or Housing Association home as easy, fair and transparent as possible - and give our tenants a greater say in where they live. To do this, we use a system called Choice Based Lettings (CBL).
You can bid for properties and find out what is available on the Sheffield Property Shop website,
Here you can find out:
- How to register for council housing
- How to bid for a property
- How long you might have to wait for a property
- What happens when you are offered a property
- Where properties are advertised
- What to do if you are homeless or need to move urgently

We also provide information about
furnished accommodation,
Housing Associations and
First Come First Served properties.
If you struggle to pay your rent and/or council tax, you can find out if you are eligible, or can make a claim, for benefits by going to the
Housing and Council Tax Benefit section of the
Sheffield City Council website.
A copy of Sheffield City Council’s lettings policy is available for you to read or download at the bottom of this page. We have also produced a much shorter, summary version for our customers, which is also attached below.
