Find out about homeless services
If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, please visit First Point at Howden House, 1 Union Street, to find out about applying to use our services. You should see one of our Customer Service Advisors and make it clear that you want to make a homeless application.
The Homeless Section phone number is 0114 2734406/ 2735142. Outside working hours, ring the emergency number (0114 2442441) or Freephone 0800 7311689.
Staff will discuss with you all Housing Advice, Homeless and Housing Options. If necessary, a member of Housing Solutions will also complete a Homeless Assessment.
Even if you do not meet all criteria, the Council may still provide temporary accommodation whilst they assess your case . They may also help you find accommodation. You may also consider using one of two main types of hostel.
If you are awarded a Homeless Priority, somebody called a Homefinder will help you through the rehousing process, including: |
 |
- Bidding, viewing and signing for a property
- Advice on obtaining identification
- Completing forms
- Advice on drop-in services
- Help with new tenancy visits
