Permissions
Before making any alterations or improvements to your home, you must contact us for permission. It is essential that you do this as you may need to apply for Planning Permission or Building Consent. This includes:
- An extension
- Putting up a shed, greenhouse, fence or gate
- Adding, changing or replacing the fixtures and fittings provided by us
- Altering essential gas, electric and water services
- Putting up a radio or television aerial or satellite dish
- Decorating your home’s exterior
- Fixing Solar Panels to roofing
You also need permission to:
- Keep a cat or dog in a flat or maisonette
- Keep a mobility scooter in flats or sheltered accommodation
- Run a business from your property
- Sublet part of the property (you cannot sublet all of it)
If you alter or add something to your home without permission, you may have to put things right at your own expense if the work does not meet a standard that is satisfactory to Sheffield Homes. This would also be the case had Planning Permission or Building Consent been required.
What if I didn’t ask for permission?
If you have altered your property without written permission, write and tell us. We will make every effort to grant ‘retrospective’ permission if the work is to a decent standard and complies with any Planning issues or Building Regulations.
