Freedom of information
Freedom of Information Act 2000
Freedom of Information law permits any person or organisation anywhere to ask us for any information we hold. The law obliges us to respond to any such request within strict time limits within 20 working days.
Most information we hold is public and will be disclosed. An exception is personal information which is dealt with under Data Protection law.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives the right to request information from Sheffield Homes. It promotes openness and accountability among public sector organisations, so that everyone can understand how authorities make decisions, carry out their duties and spend public money.
The Act gives a general right of access to all types of recorded information held by Sheffield Homes. There are some exemptions to this general right of access and these are known as ‘absolute exemptions’ and ‘qualified exemptions’. If a qualified exemption applies, then it is subject to the public interest test. This means that Sheffield Homes must decide whether in each particular case it serves the interests of the public better to withhold or to disclose the information requested.
Sheffield Homes produces a wide range of information about our services and the work we do. A lot of this information is available on this website, at our public offices and in our newsletters and leaflets.
How do I make a request for information under the Act?
Your request must be in writing (this includes email), giving your name and address.
Please state the information you want as clearly and accurately as possible.
We will then advise and help you as much as possible.
It will help if you tell us why you want the information and the names of any staff involved.
If we are not sure what you are asking for, we will contact you for more details.
Send your request to:
