Safety in Your Home Leaflet
Helping tenants live in their homes safely
Far too many accidents happen in people's homes, some of them leading to serious injury or even death. Sheffield City Council produced a booklet, supported by agencies such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, that gives advice covering the most common causes of accidents in the home. It is called "Safety in Your Home" and is available from all Area Housing Offices. Or you can download a copy from this page.
The leaflet includes advice about:
- Security in the home
- Fire safety
- Safety with electrical wiring, plugs and appliances
- The dangers of carbon monoxide poisioning, the need for regular maintenance and servicing of gas appliances and how to spot the signs of gas leaks
- Safety on balconies, landings and stairs, particularly with children in mind
- How to make sure windows are both safe and secure
- Disposing of rubbish safely and responsibly
- Safety around building sites
- What to do if you find asbestos in your home
- Child safety
- Who to contact in emergencies involving fire, gas, electricity and water
