Renting a Garage
Paying your garage/garage site rent
Your rent is due and should be paid every week. There are various ways to pay your rent.
Rent arrears
If you fall behind with your garage rent you will be ‘in arrears’. If you get into arrears, you should immediately contact your local area housing office.
The Council does not have to seek an order from the County Court to end a garage/garage site occupancy agreement.
We will attempt to contact you if you fail to make payments or do not get in touch with your Area Housing Office to discuss the arrears.
Following this, if no contact or payment is made a Notice to Quit will be issued, advising you that we are terminating the garage/garage site occupancy agreement.
Notice to Quit
The Notice to Quit will give you 14 days to vacate. When this period has expired the garage/garage site occupancy agreement will then be ended and the garage and contents taken into possession.
Council tenants
If you are a council tenant any rent payment you make will always be credited to the account for your residential dwelling first. Any shortfall in payments will result in garage arrears and may lead to a Notice to Quit being served on the garage.
Renting a garage or garage site
If you are interested in renting a garage or garage site you should contact the local area housing office which is responsible for the area the garage is in. There may be a waiting list unfortunately.
