MESSY GARDEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE - 23rd September 2008
Andrew Nicholson, aged 28 of Southey Hall Road has received a court warning about the terrible state of his garden.
Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Homes were forced to take legal action after he failed to respond to numerous letters warning him to clear waste and cut back the garden. Neighbours have been complaining about the garden for a year now.
The Council had applied for an injunction but instead Mr Nicholson gave an undertaking to the court (basically a promise) that he would comply with his tenancy conditions and tidy his garden.
He is obliged to:
- Remove household items including sofas, chairs, and drawers from his front and back gardens and dispose of them appropriately
- Cut back brambles and undergrowth from the back garden and dispose of the waste appropriately
- Cut the grass in the front and rear gardens
He must do this by 16 October. If he doesn't he could face a fine or even imprisonment.
Councillor Bob McCann, Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Safer Communities, said: "Once again we've tried to work with a tenant, offering him free green sacks for garden waste and details of free bulky rubbish collections, but he hasn't worked with us. For the benefit of all local residents we've had to take action to improve the neighbourhood."
