FirshillArea and PropertiesFirshill area consists of Firshill Crescent, Firshill Rise, Firshill Avenue, Firshill Road, Firshill Close, Firshill Gardens and Firshill Way It includes some of Shirecliffe Road and Batworth Drive. The properties are a mix of council houses, flats and private homes. On Shirecliffe and Batworth the properties are all private, except for one block of flats on Shirecliffe Road. The area is quite hilly and can be difficult for mothers with prams or the elderly. The estate is quite modern in design with green areas interspersed around the walkways and very popular with prospective tenants, a stable community. InvestmentAs part of the decent homes programme, the properties in the area will undergo improvement, particularly to kitchens and bathrooms, between April 2009 and March 2010. Tenant and Resident Associations (TARA)The Firshill TARA is based at 11 Firshill Glade. They are open 10am - 12am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 2pm to 3.30pm on Thursdays. The Tara is chaired by David Hoad and vice chair Pauline West. The Group’s secretary is Sheila Habeshaw, the treasurer is Julia Pidd and the other committee members are Margaret Thorpe, Janet Boam, Lewis Boam, Betty Smalley and Vince Conroy. The TARA’s contact number is 0114 2560337. Community CentresThere is a community centre on Firshill Crescent, available for functions and get-togethers. GaragesFirshill has a large number of garages, around 30 in total, spread across Firshill Crescent and Firshill Croft. All are secure and in good condition. ShoppingFirshill does not contain any shops itself, but it only a short drive from Meadowhall shopping centre, shops at Hillsborough or those at the bottom of Burngreave Road. Some residents make use of the shops at Firth Park, which have a wide range of shops and services. EducationTwo schools are located in the Firshill area.

DoctorsThe area is served by a doctor’s surgery on Pitsmoor Road. HospitalsThe hospital that serves the Bressingham area is the Northern General Hospital on Herries Road. Police StationsThe local Police Station for this area is the Attercliffe Police Station at 60 Attercliffe Common. DentistsThe Firshill Estate has a its own dentist located at the bottom of Firshill Crescent. Post OfficesThere are two post offices in the area
VetsThere are no vets in the Firshill or Burngreave area. The closest vet is the PDSA Pet Aid Hospital at 14 Newhall Road. SportsThe Sheffield United Training Academy is located off Firshill Avenue and offers training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays for children aged 5-12, costing £3 a session and £4 for goal keeping sessions. Nursing HomesRoewood Residential Home is located at 34 Firshill Rise, so is right in the middle of this area. In the surrounding area there are numerous other nursing homes.
Local NewsOne of the best ways to stay abreast of local news in the area is the Burngreave Messenger, a free local paper that is sent out to residents and businesses. It can also be viewed online at http://www.burngreavemessenger.org/ AllotmentsThere are three allotments in the area, at Grimesthorpe, Hinde House Lane and Roe Wood. Anyone wanting a plot can call 0114 273 4528 for more information. Cash PointsThere is a cash machine located on Ellesmere Road and one on Spiral Hill, inside The Ozmen Supermarket. Please note that the machine in The Ozmen Supermarket charges a fee. ParksThere is a community garden located by St Catherine’s School on Firshill Crescent. Bus ServicesPublic transport in the Firshill estate is served by the 34 route, Shirecliffe to Hemsworth, which runs every 20 minutes, Sheffield Railway Station is just 10 minutes by car or bus. Sheffield Park Square Roundabout is about 5 minutes drive from Firshill, linking routes to all parts of Sheffield as well as the Sheffield Parkway and M1 motorway. Bin Collections Black bins are collected every Friday; Blue bins are collected every four weeks, also on a Friday.
