Area and Properties
The Pitsmoor estate sits about 1 mile north of Sheffield city centre. The area has a mixture of council, housing association, privately rented and owner occupied accommodation. Burngreave Road, Barnsley Road and Carlisle Street border the estate.
A relatively modern estate up to the top of the hill (Carwood estate) with a pleasantly designed mixture of types of properties but also incorporating older types (sundries) towards Barnsley Road.
There are occasional garden areas incorporated on the estate.
Amenities
Shopping facilities in the area are limited with a few shops and services concentrated around the grassed triangle where Spital Hill, Burngreave Road and Ellesmere Road meet.
Some residents chose to do the majority of their shopping at nearby Firth Park, which has a wide range of shops and services.
Equally accessible by a short bus ride is Sheffield city centre which has an extensive range of shops and services including banks, supermarkets, High Street stores and specialist shops along with bars, clubs, restaurants and fast food outlets, all within walking distance. Meadowhall is about 10 minutes away by bus.
There are no shops in the immediate area but the shopping centre at Ellesmere Road is easily accessible.
Transport
Public transport in the Pitsmoor area is quite good with lots of bus routes travelling between Barnsley Road / Burngreave Road and Sheffield city centre.
Sheffield Railway Station is just 5 minutes by car or bus.
Sheffield Park Square Roundabout is about 2 minutes drive from Pitsmoor, linking routes to all parts of Sheffield as well as the Sheffield Parkway and M1 motorway.

This area of Pitsmoor is served by Byron Wood Primary School (Earldom Road), Firshill Primary School (Barnsley Road) and Fir Vale School (Earl Marshal Road).
