Sheffield Homes and Police unite to make neighbourhoods safer

Sheffield Homes are joining forces with South Yorkshire Police on a special initiative aimed at raising awareness of crime prevention in the East of Sheffield.

The project will see Neighbourhood Wardens from Sheffield Homes and Police Community Support Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, working together to promote 'No Cold Calling' zones with residents living in and around the Firs Hill estate.

‘No Cold Calling’ zones were set up in partnership with Trading Standards to prevent doorstep sellers from entering and selling to residents in estates across Sheffield.

“This initiative is an excellent way to raise awareness of safety issues, particularly door step safety, with our customers.  The welfare of all our customers is paramount which is why partnership working with the Police is important for us to go one step further in ensuring all our customers live in safer, cleaner and greener neighbourhoods.”  Brigitt Westran, Area Manager at Sheffield Homes.

The joint working will include the delivery of information leaflets to every property on the estate along with providing a visible presence so that residents can ask any questions they may have.

Inspector Jon Ekwubiri from the local Safer Neighbourhood team added, “Our PCSOs have been keen to take this opportunity to get to know residents even better and ensure that residents are keeping themselves and their homes safe.  Our team works closely with Sheffield Homes and other local agencies to tackle the issues that cause concern, such as cold calling.  With this zone in place, residents can now feel confident that they should not open the door to cold calls, and this shouldn’t come as a surprise to the caller."
