Community Engagement Activities - 2007
15th December 2007 - Parson Cross Christmas Market
The venue was Margetson Crescent on Saturday, 15th December 2007, 10am - 5pm.
There were 10 market stalls, a free Santa's grotto (10.30am - 1.30pm), a free fairground ride, fire engine, food and refreshments.
There was an opportunity to find out about plans for buildings on the old college site and plans for Parson Cross park, Tongue Gutter and the new library at Chaucer/Buchanan and to talk to staff from Sheffield Homes, Barratts, Liveability, South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield Futures and the Area Panel.
14th December 2007 - Open Day at First Point Chambers Court
The Sheffield Homes office at First Point Chambers Court, Station Road, Chapeltown held an open day from 9am to 3.30pm. Visitors enjoyed a mince pie and a slice of chocolate yule log and took part in the free raffle - with prizes donated by Station Road businesses.
11th December 2007 - Ecclesfield TARA Christmas Party
The venue was Unity Gardens, 3 Reneville Crescent on Tuesday 11th December 2007. Around 40 older folk were treated to a free ham and turkey salad, sherry and home made mince pies.
The venue was the Emerson community room (behind 187 Emerson Crescent) on Monday, 10th December 2007.
29th November 2007 - Norwood & Bishopsholme TARA Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The venue was the Norwood & Bishopsholme Community Centre, 135 Busk Meadow, on Thursday 29th November 2007 at 7pm.
24th November 2007 - Longley Christmas Fayre
The venue was the new Four Greens centre, Southey Avenue on Saturday 24th November 2007. Doors opened at 10am with admission £1 (including a hot drink)
14th November 2007 - Longley Hall Farm TARA General Meeting
The venue was 35 Longley Hall Way on Wednesday 28th November 2007 at 7pm.
The venue was Unity Gardens, 3 Reneville Crescent on Wednesday, 7th November 2007 at 6pm.
3rd November 2007 - Ecclesfield TARA - Christmas Bazaar
The venue was Unity Gardens, 3 Reneville Crescent on Saturday, 3rd November 2007 between 10am - 4pm.
Local folk tucked into hot pork sandwiches, beefburgers, cream teas and had the chance to look round a nearly-new stall, arts & crafts, hand-made cards, tombola & raffle and a Sheffield Homes stall. All proceeds were in aid of South Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
30th October 2007 - Longley (Local) TARA General Meeting
The venue was the Four Greens Community Centre, Four Greens, Southey Avenue
on Tuesday 30th October 2007 at 6pm. There was a raffle and a buffet.
8th October 2007 - "Eat & Greet" (Angram Bank TARA)
The venue was the Pavilion at Angram Bank, High Green on Monday 8th October 2007 between 7pm and 9pm.
Local people had the opportunity to meet their TARA committee and Sheffield Homes staff as well as staff from ICT4life (who had information about free computer courses) and Age Concern.
There were free refreshments a free buffet and Sheffield Homes freebies!
29th September 2007 - Parson Cross Community Festival
The venue was Chaucer School Field, Halifax Road entrance on Saturday 29th September 2007 from 11am - 4pm. There was a fairground, displays, dog show, market stalls, table top sale and refreshments.
26th September 2007 - Annual Resident's Conference - "Cleaner & Greener" As well as informal presentations and displays the event gave visitors the opportunity to watch a range of demonstrations including falconry and wood carving. There were also be interactive activities including circus skills, juggling and carbon footprint readings from Weston Park Museum.
This year's event was opened by ‘cleaner, greener’ celebrity, BBC weatherman, Paul Hudson who moved in from the North on a band of low pressure to bring sunshine to the people at the event!
The conference took place on Wednesday 26th September at Norfolk Heritage Centre in the Park.
Also on the day were exhibitions from local cleaner, greener organisations including Community Forestry, South Yorkshire Badger Association, Heeley City Farm, Weston Park Museum, Street Force, Veolia and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport.
22nd September 2007 - Foxhill Festival
The venue was Foxhill Primary School field - just off Keats Road - Saturday 22nd September 2007 from 11am - 3pm.
18th September 2007 - Shirecliffe TARA Social Night (including General Meeting), The venue was the Shirecliffe Community Centre, Shirecliffe Road at 6.30pm.
There was a singer/comedian a buffet and raffle prizes.
Local people had the opportunity to let their voice be heard and bring ideas about what they'd like to see happening in Shirecliffe.
7th & 8th September 2007 - "Bands & Blooms" (rescheduled from 6th & 7th July 2007)
ANSA organised this event held at the Angram Bank Pavilion, High Green on Friday 7th September 6pm - 9pm and Saturday 8th September 2007 between 11am - 6.30pm.
Local people enjoyed all the fun of the fair with stalls, rides, majorettes, cheerleaders, bands, face painting and much, much more!
22nd August 2007 - Doorstep Crime Presentation
Lindsay TARA hosted a presentation by South Yorkshire police and trading standards about door-step crime and cold-calling. Residents from the Emerson estate were advised to keep their doors locked, use the door chain when opening the door and to always ask for proof of identication from unknown callers. A call to the visitor's head office is also advisable as ID can easily be faked.
7th August 2007 - Ecclesfield TARA Summer Barbeque
Ecclesfield & District TARA held a summer barbeque at Unity Gardens. It was a chance for local people, young and old, to (finally!) enjoy some good weather. Guests included local PCSO's and Sheffield Homes' staff.
6th July 2007 - SOAR Celebration Event
On Friday 6th July 2007, SOAR (Southey & Owlerton Area Regeneration) held a celebration event at the new Shirecliffe Community Centre.
National and local politicians, dignitaries, community workers and Tenant & Resident Association (TARA) members all attended including Margetson & District TARA's secretary, Norma Ashmore.
A bus tour of the SOAR area allowed them to see at first hand the improvements that SOAR have initiated and included a look at the tremendous recovery work that is taking place in the wake of the recent floods.
The event was an opportunity to take stock of SOAR's achievements, celebrate them and look forward to the future.
27th April 2007 - STAR Awards
In the Chatsworth Suite at Hillsborough football ground, Sheffield Homes' North Area Tenant Participation Team held the STAR awards - STAR stands for "Special Thanks And Recognition."
It was a chance for Sheffield Homes to publicly thank the 18 TARAs in North Area for all their hard work.
After introductions by Peter Morton, the Chief Executive of Sheffield Homes, framed certificates were given to all the TARAs by Paul Voyse, North Area Manager, and the special guest for the evening - the Right Honourable David Blunkett MP.
The evening was rounded off by a buffet where TARA members had a chance to share ideas, good practice and have a good old natter.
26th February 2007 - Anti-Bullying Workshop
Staff from Sheffield Homes took part in a session in Ecclesfield Library, educating a group of 5 and 6 years old from nearby Monteney Primary School, about how to overcome bullying and who to go to for help.
It was presented by Dawn Wragg and Neil Ashton in a child-friendly way, using visuals, and the session ended with Dawn reading the story of Hector, an alligator who was bullied because he did not have the “right” trainers.
The event went very well and the children stayed behind after the session for a friendly chat and to read their books to Dawn and Neil!
