Respect Award

Deborah Byrne with her Respect Award

Deborah Byrne, the then Chair of Lindsay Tenants and Residents Association, became the second Sheffield resident to win the Home Offices’ Respect Award for Taking a Stand in recognition for tackling anti-social behaviour in the Parson Cross area.

Deborah was invited to a special event in Birmingham on 19th April 2007 to receive the award.

Nicola Somerset, Housing Co-ordinator at Sheffield Homes said,
"Deborah is instrumental in helping Sheffield Homes to raise awareness of the importance of reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour to the Police and Sheffield Homes. She was also one of the key people involved in setting up a pilot project with Sheffield Homes aimed at supporting vulnerable people and reducing anti-social behaviour being caused by young residents."

Deborah added, "I wanted to take action to try to do something about the lack of respect the people causing anti-social behaviour had for other people living in the area. It’s only a small minority of people causing trouble but it makes a big difference to everyone else’s lives. The help I’ve been able to offer others has meant that more people feel confident about reporting anti-social behaviour."
