Sheffield Homes urges all tenants to take out household insurance, either through our special scheme or by making their own arrangements.
The Home Contents Insurance scheme – arranged by Aon through Norwich Union an Aviva company – is a low cost Insurance scheme, which is paid weekly with the rent. It offers basic contents cover to tenants against fire, theft and water damage. It is not an all-risks policy; therefore cover against accidental damage is extremely limited.
- All tenants are eligible to be considered for the scheme provided they are not in rent arrears or are not disqualified for any other reason
- Tenants over 60 years old can obtain cover for a minimum of £6,000 worth of contents for £1.02 a week
- Other tenants can obtain minimum cover of £9,000 for £1.53 a week
- All home contents are covered by the policy on a 'new for old' basis, with the exception of linen and clothing that will be replaced at their current cost, less an amount for wear and tear
- To make sure that you are always covered you must keep up to date with your payments. Claims will not be eligible unless payments are up to date
