Tree Planting - 15th November 2007

On 15th November 2007 children from Greengate Lane School went along to Hazelshaw Gardens to plant some trees.

Jez Platts, Sheffield Homes' Community Forester, explained to the children the benefits to the planet, the community and themselves in planting trees.  However, the children already knew that:

  • Trees keep our air supply fresh by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen.

  • Trees cut down noise pollution by acting as sound barriers.

  • Trees provide food and shelter for wildlife.

The children got involved in the whole tree planting process - from digging the holes to stamping the soil at the very end.

They really enjoyed it!
