About the North West area

There are many diverse communities within the area. 

  

In terms of housing there is a mix across the area with predominantly social rented housing in Netherthorpe, Upperthorpe and Langsett.  Significant areas of council housing in Wisewood, Stannington and Winn Gardens.  Mostly private older housing in Walkley and Hillsborough, with more affluent suburban development overlooking the Rivelin Valley. There is a high student population in Crookes and Walkley.

 

The area contains a number of shopping centres including those at Crookes, Walkley and Hillsborough.
