Activities in Sheltered Housing

It has long been recognised that involving people in communal activities contribute to both maintaining healthy ageing and the building of the scheme community in Sheltered Housing.

Wardens are encouraged to facilitate activity groups and in the past when activities have been developed, the best results have been obtained when wardens are fully involved in encouraging people to attend. It is the initial leap of faith that people need from the Warden in the first place that encourages involvement and inclusion.

Get involved, get active

One of our Schemes, Mount View Lodge, has recently become a much more exciting place to live and the tenants are really pleased with the changes.

There used to be very limited involvement in social life. Then two residents volunteered to become tenants representatives and a bank account was opened, boosted by £500 from the small grants fund.

Following redecoration and new carpets, the building is now much more welcoming. Some residents have hung pictures on the corridors and fitted some decorative borders.

The residents obtained funding for garden equipment and plants, and our Estate Services Team and Street Force helped to give the garden a makeover. Those with disabilities can now join in with the gardening as well.

The Scheme is also involved in the POPPIE project, an 'Active Ageing' programme to help keep older people physically and mentally active.
